Christian and Josue.

Hola again - u lot must be getting sick of me by now. I haven't written in a week and now the inspiration just keeps coming! :-) i guess it helps that i'm actually doing stuff other than studying...

Well today i went back for my first one on one session with Christian and Josue. When i first got to the orphanage, random kids (who knew me and who didn't) just jumped on me and hugged me. They just wanna be cuddled so i wore my santizing gloves and shower cap and hugged them. Just kidding! I've been around kids with lice - i'm cool:-)

Christian was sick - he had a terrible cough - and so he wasn't really into our class, even tho i tried bribing him with a chocolate bar. He comes to about my shoulders and sits in a class with kids that reach upto his waist, he walks like he has a hunchback - all drooped over himself. When they all have to stand in line and stand with their hands on the shoulder of the person in front of them, he looks so weird!! It's like me making a choochoo train with an 8 year old. He really looks like the friendly giant! I learnt a little bit more about him. Apparently he was born in the US and lived there till he was 7, then he moved back here with his mum. The reason he is in the orphanage is cos he was living on the streets at some point? I couldnt quite understand what was going on to be honest. He doesnt know his dad. Everyone knows how much i ask questions:-) but i was careful not to do so with him...

CONTINUED...I want to find out more about their history so i'm gonna try to talk to the teachers and see if they'll inform me. It's kinda weird that i just walked in, took these kids out of their class and walked into the playground with them. I mean i'm glad i can but the school must be very trusting...I could be having those little ones doing jumping jacks and pushups for 2 hours and no one would ever know!:-)We sat in the playground as it was a sunny day and just did the alphabet and numbers in english. I gave him some homework but we'll see how that goes...I was planning on only teaching him for the 2 hours but he got bored after an hour and told me he had homework to do and wanted to go back in. So i hooked up with the 5 year old Josue. What a cutie!!! I got a video of our session so check it out(it may not be available as it's not uploading properly - ugggh). I'm probably not allowed to do this but let's be wild and crazy! He was so so into our class and by the end of the session he could write his name which is something he couldnt do yesterday - GOAL!! I had already started with him yesterday but all his friends were making fun of him so he wasn't so into it. But he was so so keen today. So we did the alphabet uptil "J" and his name. It's the simple things in life that make me smile:-)

This is Josue - he does have another leg, it's just bent:-)

    Hi Luma

Only now l started to enjoy your blog especially, about Josue and Christan. At the begining l got confused of why you went to Guatemala??Hiking & climbing, it isn't you ,it is Susan but now l am really happy for you because you have a heart big enough for the world so please do as much as you can for those kids.Maybe as a family we can send some money(like we used to do before )to adopt Christian& while you there see what you can do to get him to be with poeple of his own age,put him in a higher class ...etc Where is Madonna when we need her!!!Miss you so much

  2. Hello there sweetness! I can see I'm joining the party late. While I should be working today I have got so engrossed in reading your postings I had to finish them all! It's people like me that contribute to this failing economy :-)

It all sounds so exciting and I can't wait to hear what happens next. Your kids will owe you a debt of gratitude and probably vice versa too - it's massively rewarding when you see the light turn on in their eyes and know that you had something to do with it.

Your story about the chicken bus made me laugh out loud especially as I couldn't help thinking how similar it is to the London Underground at rush hour, which is as immensley joyful and smelly as your experience I think. The world's a small place :-)
It seems with a place like Guatemala you can't help but see the good in everything despite some of the sadness that surrounds you. You're bringing sunshine into their lives where they need it sweetie, I'm so proud of you. Lots of love and hugs x
